Truth and Reconciliation Commission extended
Today, the Government has decided to extend the Truth and Reconciliation Commission for Tornedalians, Kvens and Lantalaiset until 15 November 2023.
The Commission was appointed in March 2020 and is tasked with investigating the assimilation policies that the Swedish State pursued in the 19th and 20th centuries, and working to make the minority groups’ historic experiences visible. The aim is to provide collective redress to minority groups, promote reconciliation and prevent something similar from happening again in the future.
“The Truth and Reconciliation Commission plays an important role in providing collective redress to minority groups, promoting reconciliation and preventing something similar from happening again in the future,” says Minister for Culture Parisa Liljestrand.
With this extension, the inquiry is to be completed by 15 November 2023.
